Using a Physical Hard Drive with a VirtualBox VM

I've found a fancy way to boot into an existing instaltation of an operating system on your hard drive using VirtualBox

In a nutshell - you should create a VDMK file which basically directly mounts a physical drive on a virtual machine. This feature is only available in command line by running the following code:

VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename "link_to_sda.vmdk" -rawdisk /dev/sda

where /dev/sda stands for the device to which it should be linked.

You can then use newly created file link_to_sda.vmdk as virtual hard drive in VirtualBox.

It even makes it possible to boot into the same system you are running VirtualBox in. Crazy, right?
